Piano Tips: 

*Most of the time, it's fine to put a piano against the outside wall of a modern home! The problem used to come from inadequate insulation. You can test the walls yourself - if it feels close to the room's temperature and dry, your piano is just fine there. Do give some space from windows and heater vents!

*There is no humidity advantage to putting a jar of water in the bottom of an upright piano. The rate of evaporation is not enough to counteract dry air.
